Yes my friends that is my mother on a YAK! My momma was really excited to get to sit on top of a yak, and I think the hike up the hill to the yaks was even worth it! The ride was short and sweet, I think momma was a little embarrassed at the mobs of people looking at her. One funny story while we were there....One of the reasons that my roomate and I love this town so much is because there are so many white people, so we can get lost in the crowd so to speak. In our town this is almost impossible, because we're the only white people there.
While my momma was with us though in this very touristy area, two families approached us. One asked if she was a famous heroine (no, not the drug, that's what they call actresses), and the other family asked if they could take our picture with their kids. Now you might think it a little disturbing to be asked to have your picture taken with Nationals, however, I guess white peopel are such a rarity in some places that when they see a white person they have to document it.
It's like the abominable snowman, or rare mountain lion- you know they exist, you've just never seen them before! I thought it was kind of funny that they asked us to take a picture with them right before they paid to have their picture taken with the giant bunnies. I was thinking we would add it as an extra attracction, 10 rupees for a picture w/ a snake, rabbit, sheep, OR white person! We could be rich! Just as an added note that I asked the bunny's owner where she bought him. She told me that it was from a Town half way between Nimda* and Yak town! That means it's maybe an hour and a half away from us!!! My brother and I were talking about the giant bunnies, and he suggested I buy 2.
One male and one female, ship them back to the states when I leave here, and then breed them, and sell them for like a million dollars each back home! My grandma said that I should breed them for eattin. Apparently my grandpa used to raise bunnies for this purpose! My momma remembers many a night where they had fresh bunny meat for dinner! We ended our weekend in Yak Town by eating at the "world Peace cafe"- did I mention there are a lot of hippies that come/live in Yak town? I had falafel and humus for lunch, and we all admired the view of the mountains!
